September 3rd-6th 2004
I was told I'd be linched if we didn't have a WW3, so we are having one, though I'm dropping Kaotic from the name, cos it isn't even that anymore. Bookings will be restricted to 60 people which is all the site can comfortably handle. We expect stiff competition and will have to operate on a strictly first come first served basis.
PLEASE NOTE : This is NOT an SCA event, nor is it a KAOS event, it's my birthday treat. As I'm going to be a very busy girl this year some extra help would be appriciated, mostly I need a volunteer wrangler to remind people it's time to cook meals or do dishes and that their turn is up. I already have a shopping volunteer.
SITE TIMETABLE:
This year we have school parties using the site both before and after us so we can't have Thursdays night. We can have Sunday night but have to be out by 10am. Therefore the site opens 12 noon Friday 3rd and closes 10am Monday 6th. There won't be any "official" activities but feel free to organise anything you want to do yourself. There are walking tracks and nature trails, a very cold swimming hole.
With luck there may be a bonfire on the Saturday night.
FEES:
$65 for 3 nights.
$50 for 2 nights.
Please add $5 per person for use of the sauna and spa.
The price is slightly higher as we are not doing a potluck meal this time and everyone has been asking for more breakfast!!
THE SITE:
Mt Hutt Retreat is 100km away from Christchurch and 15
km from Methven. It is located at the end of Hart Road off SH72. If you are
coming from the Rakaia Gorge it is the first right after the Mt Hutt turnoff
or from Methven take Forest Drive to the intersection of SH 72 and Hart Rd.
All the facilities are under one roof. Features are a lounge with a fireplace,
a dinning room with a log burner, a fully equipped catering kitchen with walk
in cooler and separate scullery, toilets and showers, a spa and sauna.
There are 10 bunkrooms in two wings off the lounge. Each has 4 to 8 bunks and
several have double beds. The site is church owned, so please keep
alcohol consumption very discrete.

MEALS:
We are NOT doing a potluck dinner this time as we are arriving on site earlier, but one evening's entertainment will be fondue night, both cheese and chocolate are planned. Anyone who has, or can supply a fondue pot should get in touch! We will be arranging some sort of midnight nibbles, but suggest you bring your own snack foods. The Methven shops are 15km away.
Anyone with special food requirements should write them on the booking form (i.e. don't just tell me and expect me to remember)
CHORES:
I'm looking for several cooks to head the meal teams.
If you want to cook a meal please contact me with your suggestions. We are
running on a fairly tight budget so it should not be too elaborate. Everyone
will be expected to contribute to chores, mainly cooking and cleaning. We will
need at least three people to cook, and do dishes for every meal, so everyone
will need to do two shifts during the weekend. Please let me know your
preferred shifts on the booking form. A roster will be posted on site. Please
check it when you arrive and help fill in the blank shifts if there are any.
EVERYONE WILL BE EXPECTED TO HELP WITH THE BIG CLEAN UP ON MONDAY MORNING. IF
YOU ARE NOT STAYING UNTIL THEN PLEASE SIGN UP FOR MORE CHORES.
CLOTHING:
We are hoping for snow on site, but haven't had any in
previous years. Bring plenty of warm clothing and wet weather gear, mittens
gumboots and such, just in case. The lounge will be toasty warm but the
bunkrooms might get a bit chilly so bring lots of blankets. Those who are
modest might want togs for the spa and sauna.
TRANSPORT:
Some sort of bus will probably be arranged to go out on
the Friday around noon and return on the Monday leaving site at 10am. If you
wish to travel at any other time please make your own arrangements.
